Old Dominion Brings Out The Blues Brothers for Epic Surprise at Windy City Smokeout

If you were lucky enough to be at Windy City Smokeout in Chicago this weekend, you didn’t just catch a killer Old Dominion set—you witnessed a one-of-a-kind moment in music (and movie) history.

Old Dominion in Chicago

On Friday night, Old Dominion lit up the stage with their usual mix of high-energy country hits, but halfway through their set, frontman Matthew Ramsey had a surprise up his sleeve. With a grin stretching from ear to ear, he teased the crowd:

“We got a special little treat for you… It’s kind of a big deal… we got some American icons for you… All the way from Calumet City, Illinois… the Bluuuuuuuuuuues Brothers!”

And just like that, Dan Aykroyd and Jim Belushi—dressed in full Blues Brothers glory, from the Ray Bans to the fedora hats—walked onto the stage to deliver a full-scale throwback to their cult-classic roots. The crowd erupted as the duo kicked off a high-octane version of “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love,” harmonica and all. That energy carried straight into Old Dominion’s own “Hotel Key,” now with a Chicago twist and a side of bluesy swagger.

This wasn’t just a concert—it was a moment. A generational mash-up of country cool and Chicago soul, all unfolding live in the heart of the Windy City.

It’s still full of the big hooks and rich harmonies we love, but this time the lyrics dig a little deeper.

Expect arena-ready hits, surprise collaborations, and some serious feel-good moments along the way.
