Red Dirt music is a long-standing tradition in the midwest, and no band held up that tradition higher than Cross Canadian Ragweed. For a solid ten years CCR churned out a total of ten albums before calling a hiatus, then eventual disbanding of the band as we know it. Drummer Randy Ragsdale needed to be at home with his autistic son, and the band did not want to carry on without him under the Cross Canadian name. Grady Cross took his guitar skills elsewhere, while singer Cody Canada and bass player Jeremy Plato stuck together and formed a new act simply called Cody Canada and the Departed.
Cody Canada and the Departed is now an actively touring red dirt band that combines the best of Cross Canadian Ragweed’s hits with new material as they go. The shows are live and loud, and have a following as big and dedicated as even the Parrotheads of Jimmy Buffet fame… only with a lot more boots and hats!
