George Strait Tour | Interview:

When asked about his most recent tour, here’s what the king had to say:
“What should people expect on your tour in the coming year? Are you going to surprise everyone by dancing?”
Yes, I and the whole band are going to be dancing on stage next year. Wait till you see the little outfits. [laughs] We have some surprises up our sleeves, but aren’t quite ready to announce the tour just yet. That will come in September sometime. I did a segment in the shows this year where I sang some of my very first records and talked about how I came to record them, and all of that. I loved doing it, so I may do it again next year, except with different oldies. I have quite a few, you know.

What happened to the song you cut with Frank Sinatra? I heard bits of the single during and interview on TV. I understand why he (Frank Sinatra) didn’t want to release it. You sounded great while Frank sounded old and struggling with the high notes.

George Strait Biography

In a time when other country artists were adding flash and pop pizazz, George Strait kept it traditional country and is even credited with revitalizing the genre's roots. The Texas-born troubador began playing music in a garage rock band in the late 60's before eloping with his high school sweetheart Norma and enlisting in the US Army. He performed in an army-sponsored country band, Rambling Country, as well as an off-base act Santee before heading home to start his own act, Ace In The Hole.

George spent much of the 70's trying to gain momentum with Ace In The Hole, and even gave Nashville his best effort as a solo artist without much success. Fortune would be on his side in 1979 though when he met a new friend and future manager Erv Woolsey and began what would become one of the most legendary partnerships in the music industry today. With Erv's guidance and straightforward business ethic, George climbed to the top of the charts all through the 80's with 31 total top ten hits!

George Strait has powered on through the pop country evolution with his timeless style and evergreen song content. Now reaching retirement age George's shows are fewer and farther between but each one is like traveling through time as he takes you on a journey of his long and successful career as the King of Country Music.
