Oliver Anthony Sets Easter Sunday Show Near Hometown

Today, Oliver Anthony announces a special concert at Hopewell, Virginia’s historic Beacon Theatre about 70 miles from his hometown of Farmville. Taking place this Easter Sunday (3/31), all ticket sales from the show will go to the local Beacon Hill Church’s food outreach program.

Since 2020, the program has served free meals to the community every Friday and typically feeds around 400 people in need. Recently, the church extended the program to 30 elementary school-aged children who are provided with weekend meals.

“While we were in Europe, my guitarist Joey was telling us he read about a church in Hopewell (where we both have family from) that was facing backlash from city officials for feeding the homeless. Coincidentally, I had decided about a month prior that we would do a gospel show at The Beacon Theatre on Easter Sunday, which happened to be in the same city the church was based out of,” Oliver Anthony says. “It was decided that we would play the show for charity, and donate every dollar to help that church fight the city. After doing some digging, we realized that the church actually uses the same theater for their Sunday service, on the exact same stage we would be playing on Easter Sunday evening. As many know, I accepted Jesus into my life in the summer of 2023. I have not stepped foot in a church in over 10 years, but the churches I used to go to didn’t care the way this one does. They are selflessly serving their city, and they deserve all the help they can get.”

Oliver Anthony is currently out on the OUT OF THE WOODS Tour, proving “he’s much more than ‘Rich Men North of Richmond’…His voice is a powerful tool. It pierces the air, unvarnished and dense. You can almost feel the weight of its delivery” (Houston Chronicle). They will next visit Fort Worth’s iconic Billy Bob’s Texas for a sold-out show after playing to capacity crowds in Europe, Australia and the US already this year.

Oliver Anthony’s passionate voice, featuring a unique and emotional rasp shaped by his personal battles, captures the despair of those living without hope, especially those who live in small-town or rural America. With lyrics that “give a voice to the feelings of people who often get left out of popular discourse and pop culture” (NPR), Oliver Anthony became the first artist in history to debut at No. One on the Billboard charts without previously having a song on the charts with his hit song “Rich Men North of Richmond.” The song has been streamed more than 77 million times on YouTube and has tallied more than 115 million across all streaming platforms. He is the first living male songwriter to chart 13 songs simultaneously in Billboard’s Top 50 Digital Song Sales. Five of his other songs have made iTunes’ Top 10, including “Ain’t Got a Dollar,” which also claimed the No. One spot on Spotify’s Viral 50 list. For more information, visit OliverAnthonyMusic.com.
