Starting in April 2025, ticket companies and hotel booking sites will have to show you the full price — including all fees — right up front. No more hidden fees popping up at checkout.
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) approved this new rule to make prices clear and honest for everyone. It’s meant to save people money, time, and headaches. Live Nation, the company behind Ticketmaster, is already doing this at its venues and praised the new rule.
There’s also a new law in the works called the TICKET Act, which could add even more protection. It would require all-in pricing for ticket sales and crack down on shady practices in the resale market. It would stop resellers from pretending to be official partners of artists, teams, or venues, and they’d have to be clear about their refund policies. It would also make sure you get refunds or replacement tickets if an event is canceled.
Some groups are arguing about the details. While many support the TICKET Act, a group called Fix the Tix says it still leaves room for sketchy resellers to sell fake tickets under new names. Meanwhile, the National Consumers League says the bill is a big step forward to protect fans.
What This Means for You: When you buy concert tickets, you’ll see the full price — no surprise fees at checkout. Resellers will have to be more honest about who they are and what they’re selling. And, if a concert is canceled, you’ll have better protection to get your money back.
By next summer, it should be easier (and less stressful) to buy concert tickets.
